LICC Lunchtime Sessions: The Whisper in the Quiet Revival
Overview
Revival without disciplemaking cannot last.
The Quiet Revival report from Bible Society has been much discussed. But while it’s grabbed many headlines both inside and outside the church, one of its most vital messages is currently whispering rather than shouting for our attention.
Whatever your personal experience and reflections on the Quiet Revival, the growing trend of new people finding their way to church and Jesus is incredibly encouraging, particularly given the high proportion of young men and women. This is something most of us haven’t seen before in the UK, and it brings implications for all church leaders.
But not all churches are seeing this phenomenon and, even for those that are, we need to be aware it may be incredibly fragile. There is no guarantee this particular trend will continue in the UK indefinitely.
One key to sustaining this exciting movement is, surely, to look behind the numbers at the motivation for those seeking faith. When we do this, we find the ‘whisper in the quiet revival’: the fact that people are looking for purpose and meaning in the whole of their lives. So often, their encounters with a Christian in daily life have been critical in prompting them to explore faith. And if they’re asking whole-life questions and finding whole-life examples, they surely need whole-life answers.
The local church is strategically placed to offer those answers. Grab your lunch and join LICC’s Church Team online as we raise the volume on this whisper in the Quiet Revival. Together, we’ll explore how we can disciple people in a way that lasts – and empowers them to join in God’s work in all they do and are.
The Evangelical Alliance’s Finding Jesus report adds helpful insights to the Quiet Revival report – we’ll consider both in this one-hour webinar.
