In this one-hour webinar, Laura Hanbury will consider different approaches to life story work with children who are looked after.

While life story work is not a new concept in children’s services, current research suggests that knowledge and skills in relation to this topic vary among social work practitioners and teams across England and Wales. This webinar will consider why this might be the case, but will focus on increasing practitioner confidence in undertaking this work.

This webinar will also explore current research that looks at the potential consequences of not completing life story work, which may be linked to the cause of certain mental health difficulties for children in later life.

Laura Hanbury

Clinician and PhD Research Student, Royal Holloway University

Laura Hanbury’s PhD research centres on the study of how behaviour develops in the context of relational trauma and how adults perceive and/or respond to these behaviours. Her wider research includes the ongoing analysis of neurodevelopmental diagnosis in children who experience trauma and how adults assign meaning to the behaviours they see.

Having worked in the field of family support and child protection for over 17 years, she also works as an independent lecturer, author and trainer, specialising in the analysis of family dynamics and behavioural responses through the lens of attachment theory and research.
