Landance creates excellent performances in outstanding places.Dance, sound, visual and lighting artists collaborate with local young emerging artists to create a memorable and stimulating live performance experience.Assistants work alongside the artists to develop skills and gain experience.Dance workshops are run in local libraries and schools and for local community organisations .Landance was founded in 2006 and registered as a Community Interest Company in 2010. Projects have been supported by Arts Council England, regional and town councils and arts organisations, Trusts and companies, with partnerships ranging from the National Trust in 2012, Natural England in 2014 to Dorset Library Services in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021 & 2023. Landance was an associate event of Inside Out Dorset in 2014.

***UPDATE: For tonight&#x27;s promenade performace please meet at 7:15pm at the gathering point, and from there we will walk further up the hill for the performance to start at 7:30pm. Wheelchair spaces are nearly fully allocated for the accessible performance at the Amphitheatre, but this performance is open to all and is more suitable for those with lower mobility than the promenade performance so do please turn up to this ***‘Light’ by Landance At dusk on Wednesday 6th &amp; Thursday 7th September Landance will present two free contemporary dance performances for the public in Swanage, thanks to funding from Arts Council England.Artistic Director of Landance CIC, Ella Huhne, selected Swanage Bay for this year’s Landance location, inspired by the fluidity of light and water in this beautiful landscape.Professional and local emerging young dancers, co-creators of the piece, will lead audiences from Swanage Downs, with expansive views of the bay, cliffs and sea, down to the amphitheatre where music and light will play on the dancers, creating a memorable and inspiring experience through uplifting dance, music and lighting as darkness descends.Leading up to the performances, local young people can enjoy inclusive workshops led by professional dancers in Swanage Library, schools and groups Remix and Allsort’d, collaborating to create moves around the shifting of light and water for the dancers to incorporate into the performances.Promenade Route (both nights)The map below shows the proposed promenade route. We will gather on the Downs uphill from Broad Road car park at 7.15pm, with signage from the car park to the gathering point. Look out for stewards wearing Landance tabards.Departing at dusk, walking uphill towards the South West Coast Path near the cliffs. The promenade performance takes audiences across the Downs then down to the Amphitheatre, where the last part of the performance will be held. There is seating on stone benches and short grass there. On the Thursday evening they will join the accessible performance audience at the amphitheatre. Stewards will be on hand to guide the audience along the route.The Downs are quite steep but the promenade will take a slow, gentle pace. Footwear with a good tread and weatherproof clothing is advised. The promenade performances will proceed even in light showers but in the event of very poor weather or unsafe conditions underfoot will be cancelled. Please check our social media on the day if in doubt, links at the bottom of this information. Accessible performance information (Thursday night)We have designed Thursday evening’s performance to be an accessible, full event. With the previous night’s promenade performance across the Downs having been filmed, we will project this at the Amphitheatre for wheelchair users and less mobile members of the audience at the same time (7:30pm) as the live Thursday promenade performance is taking place on the Downs.There may be a very short interval for the amphitheatre audience only then the performers and promenade audience will arrive from the Downs to join the Amphitheatre audience for the final part of the performance: live for everyone.Please refer to the map below to clarify the following information.Wheelchair accessible parking spaces have been reserved for the Thursday performance, immediately left as you turn into Broad Road off Seymer Road. Two flat wheelchair accessible areas will be allocated at the amphitheatre to view the performance: one area along the left half of the front row (8 plus carers/accompanying viewers) and an upper area (4 plus carers/accompanying viewers). All wheelchair spaces are now booked.Please note the path from the accessible parking down to the Amphitheatre is steep for the first few metres; electric wheelchairs will be fine but those arriving in manual wheelchairs may require 2 people to assist with the slope. The hard slightly uneven path leads towards the amphitheatre, then there is 30m on the grass with a further 15m to the lower viewing area at the Amphitheatre and 10m to the upper viewing area. The areas will be signed with stewards to hand.There is a flat area shaped like an ammonite at the start of Peveril Point Road, not far from the amphitheatre, where wheelchair users could be dropped off for a shorter less steep path to the amphitheatre, though please note there is no parking there. We do not recommend using Seymer Road in a wheelchair, it is very steep.We suggest wheelchair users allow 20 minutes to park and get into position, with any extra time they feel they need to get settled. We will start the amphitheatre screening at 7.30pm.The Pier Trust, not far from the amphitheatre, have kindly granted us access to their accessible toilet. A visit to the toilet from the amphitheatre and back in a wheelchair may takes about 20 minutes (NB: across the grass and paths) so we advise leaving plenty of time to go beforehand.
