Join us for LimbPower’s flagship event. The Junior Games, is an exciting and educational multi-sport event for children with an amputation and or limb difference and their siblings.For children and young people from 4 years to 18 yearsYounger children, join us for the under-4 programmeThis unique must attend single day multi-sport event introduces children with limb difference between the ages of 4 -18 into the world of disability sport and opens up a wealth of social and participation opportunities in a safe, friendly environment where children can be themselves and feel comfortable trying new sports and pushing the boundaries among their peers, ‘children like me’ away from stares and comments.Come along and try a range of different sports and activities including; tennis, basketball, football, table tennis, badminton, golf, rowing, athletics, swimming, archery. These include specific activities aimed at different age groups.Children will experience high-quality coaching from sports coaches and instructors qualified to work with children with disabilities.Who looks after the young people?Children attend the event with a parent or carer and join one of four age-defined groups for the day. The groups are led by amputee/limb different mentors and healthcare professionals.What’s available for the parents?LimbPower will have a dedicated space where parents can meet each other and healthcare professionals to share experiences, stories and questions. A member of the LimbPower team and the Meet the Healthcare Professional Team will be on hand to give information and advice.Why is this event so important?Functional skills, increased balance, movement and agility, strengthening and developing the muscles, losing and controlling weight, support mobility and reduce time off school.Development and Learning Children who play sports are able to let off steam, produce adrenaline and develop their capacity for self-control and learn to overcome their limitations. Sports help children to channel their energy, which is fundamental for their daily development.Supports mental health - Regular and sustained participation in physical activity and sport develops self-efficacy (skills) which improves self-confidence and self-esteem.Supports social health - develops friendships, a feeling of belonging and inclusion and reduces the isolation felt by many children living with a disability.These four elements are essential in supporting limb different children to live an autonomous and independent life, which is more important for disabled children.
