Limina

Café Reason Butoh Dance Theatreis an experimental performance company specialising in butoh, the radical dance form that originated in postwar Japan.Based in Oxford, Café Reason is the only permanent butoh company in the UK outside London and has achieved a fine reputation for its innovative theatre, site-specific and improvised performances. Its members at any one time are drawn from many backgrounds, each bringing to the group their different bodies, training, skills, and life experiences.From its establishment in 1997, Café Reason has been committed to an ongoing process of exploration. Its regular classes experiment with form and movement, and its developing body of work aims to extend the boundaries of perception and the interpretation and expression of universal human experience. Its work increasingly displays a synergy with other artists and art forms, combining dance with original music, poetry, installation art, and video.

Café Reason Butoh Dance Theatre

The climax of Café Reason's 20th anniversary programme, and preceded by a week-long exhibition of archive images, film, and costumes, this cabaret-style, semi-improvised, once-only performance will offer an eclectic mix of reimagined early work and brand-new choreography – a dreamlike series of short dance-theatre pieces, combined with original live music and video. 
Join us at the iconic Freud café for a creative and celebratory evening. There will be a licensed bar and tempting party food (not included in the ticket price) to add to the cabaret atmosphere. 
The doors will open at 6.00 pm and the performance will begin at  7.00, with a half-hour interval and plenty of time afterwards (until 10.30) to chat and enjoy a drink and a snack. Please arrive in good time so that you can order before the show.
Any unsold tickets will be available on the door for £10 (cash only), but we would encourage you to book in advance as seats are limited and early booking will help us cater efficiently.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
The performance is suitable for children over the age of 10, but as Freud is a licensed premises, UK laws regarding the sale and consumption of alcohol apply. 
 
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Freud is a 15-minute walk from Oxford city centre, easy to get to by public transport and with some on-street parking.
