Learn the traditional French Link Stitch sewn over a choice of ribbon to make a jewel like journal with coordinating hard covers.
Learn the traditional French Link Stitch sewn over a choice of ribbon to make a jewel like journal with coordinating hard covers.
This gem of a bookbinding project introduces the French Link Stitch sewn over tape or ribbon.
Traditionally this beautiful sewing would be hidden inside the spine covering of a hard case, but this project celebrates the intricate beauty of the technique by making a feature of it.
Leaving the spine open allows the book to open flat which makes writing or creating on the soft drawing paper pages inside a real pleasure.
Hard covers wrapped in the coordinating paper of your choice are added, securing the tails of the ribbon which then form an elegant tie closure for your journal.
Some sewing or bookbinding experience may be helpful for this project but all levels of experience are welcome with help given as needed.
Choose from a selection of decorative papers, ribbons and tapes to make your journal truly unique to you. Unlike many classes which give you a lot of prepared materials, Tamsin teaches you to core skills so that you have the knowledge and skills to continue making books from scratch at home.
Bijoux in scale, the generous number of sections creates a pleasing laced effect over the ribbon and gives your journal a substantial feel in the hand.
(These books make wonderful gifts! - just saying...)
