LIT UP WITH MICHAEL WILSON: a poetry event with a twist
Event Information
About this Event
CAP is delighted to let you know that Lit Up is back on the third Thursday of the month! The poetry event with a twist: performers are encouraged to read other poets' works as well as their own. You can hear what poets admire and are inspired by. It also means anyone can read and perform their own favourite poems, whether they are poets or not.
Our hand-picked headliners for this November’s Lit Up:
Gerry Potter used to be the gingham diva and radical agenda bender Chloe Poems. Both have graced/disgraced Belfast with poems of an expressive, ballsy nature. Killing off Chloe fourteen years ago, Gerry’s been using his Scouse voice to both descriptive and explosive effect. Eight books into his ten-book magnum opus, Gerry’s thinking long and hard about his ninth.
Mel Bradley is a Spoken Word Artist/Performance Poet, writer, burlesque & drag performer, multimedia artist, designer, actor, theatre maker, creative genius with the attention span of a gnat. Two-time ACNI and DCSDC supported artist. An outspoken queer feminist performer with a candid voice and an unhealthy obsession with the Virgin Mary. Mel has performed at various festivals and venues from the Bogside Inn to the Royal Albert Hall via Stendhal, Body & Soul, Open House, Edinburgh Fringe and Paris Lit Up. Her play Beyond the Labels of Me was the first to launch The Playhouse Derry's digital platform as part of Foyle Pride 2020 and her show Ms Noir's Seven Deadly Sins was part of Derry Halloween's online festivities.
Open mic slots will also be available for reading a poem which you would like to share: in particular, poems which have inspired you in these past challenging months.
