Join us from the comfort of your own home as we celebrate the online launch of "Reconstruction," the latest full collection by the extraordinary Aoife Mannix. In "Reconstruction," Mannix invites us into her world of resilience and introspection, chronicling her journey through cancer recovery and personal transformation amidst the backdrop of a global pandemic. Through her evocative poetry, Mannix explores the tender nuances of motherhood, the power of nostalgia, and the enduring strength found in love and imagination.Hosted by renowned poet and editor, Niall O'Sullivan, the launch will also feature readings by poets Nick Makoha and Dillon Jaxx. About the Author: Aoife Mannix is an acclaimed poet known for her poignant exploration of personal experiences and the human condition. Her work has been featured in numerous literary journals and anthologies, and she has performed her poetry at prestigious venues worldwide. In "Reconstruction," Mannix's distinctive voice shines as she navigates themes of resilience, transformation, and the enduring power of love.About the Host: Niall O'Sullivan is best known as the long-time host of Poetry Unplugged, the open mic that ran every Tuesday at the Poetry Cafe from 1996 to the cafe's hiatus in 2020. He has published four books of poetry with Flipped Eye, his latest being Werewolf of London (2021). He currently posts a weekly essay newsletter (<a href="https://buttondown.email/niall" title="https://buttondown.email/niall" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://buttondown.email/niall</a>) and teaches poetry at London Metropolitan University.About Nick Makoha: Nick Makoha is a Ugandan poet. His new collection The New Carthaginians is published on Penguin. Winner of the 2021 Ivan Juritz prize and the Poetry London Prize. In 2017, Nick’s debut collection, Kingdom of Gravity, was shortlisted for the Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection and was one of the Guardian’s best books of the year. He was the ICA 2023 Writer-in-Residence. He was the 2019 Writer-in-Residence for The Wordsworth Trust and Wasafiri. A Cave Canem Graduate Fellow and Complete Works alumnus. He won the 2015 Brunel African Poetry Prize and the 2016 Toi Derricotte &amp; Cornelius Eady Prize for his pamphlet Resurrection Man. His play The Dark—produced by Fuel Theatre and directed by JMK award-winner Roy Alexander—was on a national tour in 2019. It was shortlisted for the 2019 Alfred Fagon Award and won the 2021 Columbia International Play Reading prize. His poems have appeared in the Cambridge Review, the New York Times, Poetry Review, Poetry Wales, Rialto, Poetry London, TriQuarterly Review, 5 Dials, Boston Review, Callaloo Birmingham Lit Journal and Wasafiri. Their poems have appeared online and in print including Poetry Wales, Alchemy Spoon and Ink, Sweat &amp;amp; Tears. Dillon is winner of the Rebecca Swift Writing Prize 2022. Dillon has been placed in various poetry competitions, including most recently winning second prize in the Brighton and Hove competition, and first prize in the Wolverhampton poetry competition. Their first pamphlet has been shortlisted a handful of times, this year they’d like to see it published.
