About this event

DEM-COMM researcher Dr Sanda Ismail, based at the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration North West Coast, will be sharing his research into understanding dementia prevention, care and support in Muslim and religious communities.

Dementia is becoming more common as people live longer, and there's no cure for it yet, making it a significant health concern. Certain factors, like lifestyle and health conditions, can cause dementia, and these conditions might vary between different communities. Religious communities bring people together in unique ways that other social and cultural factors do not. However, less is understood about the distribution of the causes of dementia among religious communities. In addition, culturally appropriate post-diagnostic support remains a challenge for religious communities. The nuances among different religious communities make this picture even more complex and challenging to understand. Dr Ismail will highlight research opportunities and challenges in supporting these communities to prevent and live well with dementia.

The Forum webinars are open to everyone, and we will have time for questions at the end.
