Whispering Mike brings together a evening of eclectic folk featuring Paul Carbuncle, Andy Lenton and Andy Tymens

Whispering Mike presents an evening of local folk featuring 3 iconic musicians from the local area. Paul Carbuncle will open the evening. Paul has been described as, “a lone star plucking his acoustic twanging machine and exhibiting what one can do with a little insight, a little avoidance of convention and a handsome dashing of good old spirit”. We’re wondering if he’ll play one of his songs about hops.Paul is well-known across Nottinghamshire for his lively performances, for being one of the hosts of the Carrington Triangle Folk Club, for running the Sherwood Shessions, and for his ability to clearly describe his style, “Some call it folk-punk, while others call it punk-folk. Either is fine, but over-blend it and you’ll end up with funk or polk”. That’s all right, then.Andy Tymens released his album Treasure and Gold in 2024. It was described by Tom Lane as “Just received the debut cd from Andy Tymens……it’s brilliant!”Andy Lenton was described by AmericanaUK as “an adept guitarist with a great ear for a melody…. His songs themes may be local to Lincolnshire, the quality of the writing would undoubtedly make these songs enjoyable regardless of their geography”.Lenton and Tymens recently performed together at the UK West Coast Folk Festival 2025: “while award winning ‘Nobody Listened To Miranda’ was both moving and engaging, for sheer storytelling, ‘Julia Brown’ involving alligators, snakes, boats guns &amp; a Voodoo Queen can be considered almost unbeatable”.Join us for what is expected to be an exceptional evening of live music.
