Event description
Documentary film about Steps Against War, a history walk with puppets and songs - followed by a discussion and some puppetry

About this Event

Come and see a short documentary film about Steps Against War, a history walk with puppets and songs. Followed by an exploration and discussion of how puppetry and performance can be used in communicating local histories. With some live puppetry, and a chance to meet the puppets.

About Steps Against War

Earlier this year, a group of local people worked with Otherstory and Remembering the Real WW1 to discover untold stories of people in South Bristol during the First World War. Key to this was working with archival material assisted by Bristol Libraries. Together we created a history walk with puppets to tell these stories:

The 40 Bedminster men who refused to fight: who went to jail, or who took to the hills; the local detective always on their tracks; the women running networks of resistance - and the secret hideaway under a bike shop...

The film of Steps Against War is by Pru Fowler and Ben Edwards.

Project is supported by National Lottery Heritage Fund
