About this event

  • 2 hours

Bat walks are a perfect way to see and hear these fascinating mammals in a natural setting. Significant numbers of bats live in Martin’s Wood, near Newchurch. The walk will be led by Hazel Makepeace of the IOW Bat Group (a Bat Conservation Trust partner group). Hazel will tell us about the habitats and behaviour of the species that live in this area. In particular, we expect to see Pipistrelles and Noctules (our smallest and largest species respectively) foraging in the woods. A number of bat detectors will be made available to those who attend; these convert the bats’ ultrasound signals to sounds that are audible to the human ear.

Note: As this is a nighttime walk, please bring a torch. Also we recommend that you wear suitable footwear (ideally walking shoes or boots), and dress for the weather.
