Making the Future

An online engagement programme to learn how to draw, write, colour and letter your own comic book story.

Lockdown Stories will give you the opportunity to draw, write, colour and letter a comic book story based on your experience of the unique period of history we find ourselves living in. Just as we are fascinated by the stories of people who lived through the events of 100 years ago that brought such change to the island of Ireland, 100 years from now, people will be fascinated by the stories of people who lived through this global pandemic. Through this programme, participants will creatively capture our unique situation by making a comic book based on the story of your experience. Become a superhero, or create a whole new cast of characters to tell your story for you!How will the programme work?- We'll deliver you an art pack in the post with the materials you'll need and provide access to the Nerve Centre's suite of Creative Centenaries comic books- Take part in drawing and colouring workshops with comic and graphic designer Fiona Boniwell and writing workshops with editor and publisher Colin O'Mahoney- You will develop, write and draw your own comic book story inspired by your own life- An online community hosted through Slack will bring participants together to share their workThis programme is FREE and open to anyone based in Northern Ireland or border counties. It begins 7 May and runs until 21 May. Online workshops will take place over video call with catch-up and development sessions in Slack. Workshops will take place from 11.30am to 1pm on the following dates: 7th, 12th, 14th, 19th, 21st MayEach session will also be recorded and available to view in the Slack channel afterwards. You must be aged 16+ in order to take part in this programme. Anyone aged 11-16 must be registered by an adult who is also taking part in the programme.
