Log Stool Making
Saturday 31st May – 9.30am to 5pm
Hosted by Ged Wood
No previous skills required for this fun and creative workshop, in making a rustic stool from a log to take back with you and proudly display in your home.
You will be shown how to cleave, trim and shave the stool legs on the shave horse. Form tenons on the stool legs with a tenon cutter and draw knife. Then shape the slab for the seat of the stool, drill out the leg holes with a hand auger and finally assemble the stool.
A bit about the tutors – GedWood
Ged has been a Countryside ranger for Moray Council for 20 years. He studied forestry at Bangor University and not surprisingly he enjoys being outdoors with nature. Ged first got into green woodworking through renovating his house and garden. He built his own bespoke kitchen from wood and taught himself as he went. He enjoyed it so much he decided he'd like to teach others how to craft beautiful items from natural resources.
So what is greenwood? Ged takes freshly cut, unseasoned timber – the likes of which can end up on our winter open fires – and converts this timber into unique, functional products. To do this he uses traditional methods and tools, harking back to bye gone days before highly mechanised machinery, for truly handcrafted and individual items.
Ged's interests include hill walking, bird watching, yoga, conservation, environmental issues and northern soul. He's a very calm and encouraging teacher and an all round great human being!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN SUBSIDISED THROUGH FUNDING FROM THE MORAY LOCAL ACTION GROUP. IF YOU LIVE IN THE CABRACH, DUFFTOWN, LUMSDEN, RHYNIE OR GLASS YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A COMMUNITY WORKSHOP TICKET. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE ORDER FORM WITH YOUR ADDRESS.
