WHAT IS THE LONDON TO BRIGHTON WALK?

A Walking Post original, this long distance trail stretches 70 miles from Carshalton all the way to Brighton. On the way it climbs over the North Downs, passing lavender fields, vineyards & woodland, down to rural Sussex, before climbing up the chalky South Downs to descend to the sea.

    ROUTE DETAILS

Initally the route passes through the private Kingswood Estate and out across the busy A217 (take care here). After Walton on the Hill, there is a pedestrian subway under the M25. Then healthland and generally good tracks to the top of Box Hill. There are 275 steps down from here so take your time. It can be muddy at the base of Box Hill and busy near the stepping stones.

Welcome to the Walking Post! Our website offers walking route ideas around London and the South East with maps and written directions. We also run open guided group walks in Surrey, Kent, London and further afield. We love being able to take the train out of London and into the countryside. There are so many beautiful places less than an hour by train away from the city and so many footpaths to discover. Most routes start and finish at train stations but you can also head out in the car or even in some cases, walk out of the city!
