Longitudinal Data Analysis for Social Scientists

An established provider of training, capacity building and knowledge exchange activities in the area of statistical methods and data analysis.

AQMEN

This is a two-day hands on training workshop led by Professor Vernon Gayle, AQMEN (Data Science for Social Research), University of Edinburgh.
Across the social sciences there is widespread agreement that longitudinal data provides powerful research resources.  Many books and courses on longitudinal data analysis are oriented towards statistics and they often lack adequate coverage of the common practical challenges associated with undertaking ‘real’ research. This workshop is specially designed for social scientists. It provides a brief and highly accessible introduction to quantitative longitudinal data analysis using Stata software.
It is suitable for post-graduate students and social researchers. It is aimed at researchers whose interests are substantive rather than methodological, and those who wish to engage with longitudinal data but have no clear point of access.

Prerequisite knowledge
All participants must be competent in the use of a PC and the Windows environment. They should also be familiar with social science survey data analysis.  Knowledge of statistical modelling (especially regression techniques) is required and experience of working with a statistical data analysis package (e.g. SPSS or Stata or SAS) is desirable.  Participants must not be reluctant to work using syntax (rather than using menus).
