Event description
A regular online meet-up for LOTI's growing network for London borough Data Scientists

About this event

We warmly invite data scientists (and analysts learning to code) from London boroughs to join us for a monthly (virtual) meet up to share approaches, build collaborative resources and get training on specific data science techniques.

The GLA and LOTI have created a new network to support data scientist and those in related roles. We aim to:

  • Create a network for peer to peer support and advice
  • Share best practice between boroughs.
  • Create a Github repository for shared resources
  • Listen to your needs and create content and resources that support your work

In addition to the monthly meet ups we have created an online network for data scientists and analysts learning to code in London boroughs, and are keen to hear more about what help they most need on a regular basis.

On Wednesday 27 January, LOTI in collaboration with the Office of National Statistics (ONS) will be holding a workshop to inform next steps on a potential training programme for Data Scientists in London Boroughs. Boroughs are keen to understand more about how they can use data analytics to solve common problems and deliver world-class public services to Londoners. With the support of ONS who have run a stellar Data Science Campus and Accelerator Programme for many years, we hope to identify a common problem that boroughs are facing that could benefit from collaboration. We will work together with the borough officers to develop a solution that demonstrates the value of data science within London’s local government.

Workshop objectives

Generate ideas for a multi-borough collaborative data science project supported by ONS

Programme objectives

  • Solve a cross-borough data science challenge
  • Build boroughs’ data science capability
  • Develop the skills of data scientists in local government
  • Support ONS to scale this pilot to develop their multi-organisational programme offer.
