About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

New York’s Highline walkway on an abandoned elevated railway line has inspired a UK version - The Low Line. Our version roughly follows repurposed railway arches at ground level. The Low Line between London Bridge and Bankside forms the first part of our walk. London already had a Highline of sorts, in the form of the Barbican Highwalks. Our amble along these Highwalks and through the Barbican completes the high line part of the walk.

Highlights of the walk include the arches through Borough Market and Borough Yards. The later being a new development hidden in plain sight. We reach the river Thames in the vicinity of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the Tate Modern. Our crossing point from South Bank to North Bank is the Millennium Bridge and its panoramic view of the river. After crossing to the North we encounter ancient history in the form of Londinium’s Roman wall and the more recently defunct Broad Street Station. The walk ends at Liverpool Street Station convenient for journeys home, or post walk refreshments. There are plenty of drop out points but we hope you will stay until the end. The walking distance is three miles.
