Description:

Everyone’s Invited began as an online movement, ignited by Soma Sara in the summer of 2020. It began as a safe space for survivors to share their stories of sexual assault. After the testimonies exposed the universal prevalence of the problem, the organisation worked to find solutions and tackle rape culture head-on by delivering specialist education in schools. Since offering education in September 2022, they have reached over 60 schools, colleges and universities, working with over 10,000 pupils and 2,000 staff members.

This specialist session will train individuals on how to have positive and empowering conversations with young people to promote healthy relationships, sexual well-being and tackle rape culture. It will also tackle the influence of social media in young people’s lives and the current rise of online misogyny. Everyone’s Invited will teach an approach that is personal, empathetic and non-judgemental—presenting the facts and encouraging young people to think critically about the world around them. They will cover topics such as gendered pressures, healthy and unhealthy relationships, online safety, and the various trends and influencers we see on social media.

Aim:

The aim of this session is for Everyone’s Invited to share insights and findings from their extensive workshops and research conducted in schools. It will also help attendees gain familiarity with the trends and influencers targeted towards young people on social media apps. It will give attendees a solid understanding of the impact of this on young people’s lives and equip them to have productive conversations on these topics.

Increase confidence in addressing online misogyny and promoting positive masculinity
Gain knowledge of how to facilitate conversations with young people on relationships, gender, and social media
Learn how to promote critical thinking and digital literacy among young people
