LUCIENNE DAY: Drawing Threads
A workshop inspired by her incredible textile design and drawing works!
LUCIENNE DAY: Drawing Threads
An online drawing workshop inspired by the textile design and drawing works by Lucienne Day! We will be making patterns in an unconventional way. Join to draw and play :)
✏ Pay What You Can
✏ Live Online Class: Sat, 30th May 2026, 2pm BST
✏ With artist and educator Karolina Głusiec and hosted by Frances Stanfield
✏ + 14 Days Recording Access
We will look at Lucienne Day’s drawings, which are most often linear and abstract but convey the untamed energy of children’s drawing. We will create artworks that combine the calmness and structure of geometry with the spontaneity and freedom of hand-drawn line work.
Lucienne Day was one of the most innovative and unique textile designers. With her love of drawing and her playful compositions of blocky, colourful shapes, she created designs full of curiosity and incredible energy. All of them inspire us to think about how freehand, childlike drawings can interact with geometric compositions in a free, unrestricted way.
In this class, we will look at a selection of her work and, thanks to the Centre for Advanced Textiles at Glasgow School of Art, we will take a closer look at modern printed fabrics which include some of the most famous patterns that she designed, such as Calyx, Sequoia, and Herb Anthony. Lucienne, together with her husband Robin, created a large body of work which was used in furniture and interior design in the 20th century.
In this workshop we will be making patterns in an unconventional way. Join to draw and play :)
