Overview

'Luminous' Exhibition Private View

Luminous brings together a dynamic collection of contemporary works by ArtCan artists, exploring light not only as a visual phenomenon, but as a conceptual and emotional force. Across painting, photography, and mixed media, the exhibition will reflect on how light shapes perception, atmosphere, and memory - particularly within the heightened sensory experience of summer.

At its core, the exhibition will consider how contemporary artists navigate visibility and presence. Light becomes a metaphor for attention: what is revealed, what remains obscured, and how meaning emerges through subtle shifts in tone, colour, and subject. The works invite viewers to slow down and attune to these nuances, encouraging a deeper awareness of the fleeting, and the moment shared.

Situated within the context of summer—a season associated with expansion, clarity, and heightened perception—Luminous ultimately asks how light informs not only what we see, but how we feel, remember, and connect.

The Hare & Hounds, N1 London

A three month residency exhibition at The Hare & Hounds, Islington, London, showcasing ArtCan artists within a prime central London venue.

Exhibition spaces include: The Pub, The Tyndale Room & The Cocktail Bar.

At Hare & Hounds, we’re proud to work closely with our local community, so partnering with ArtCan for this exhibition felt like a natural fit. ArtCan supports a wide network of artists by creating opportunities to exhibit, connect and develop their practice. Together, we’re able to showcase that talent to a wider audience enabling them to experience art in a more accessible setting. This collaboration allows us to have exciting, original work within our space, while giving artists the chance to reach new audiences beyond the traditional gallery environment. A shared focus on community, creativity and accessibility sits at the heart of it, making it a genuinely rewarding partnership for both sides.

About ArtCan

ArtCan is an artist-led, non-profit arts organisation with members across Britain and internationally. Our work is supported by the efforts of artist-member volunteers, and with the valued guidance of our Board of Trustees.

ArtCan has expertise in producing collaborative exhibitions in London, across Britain and internationally. Our exhibitions complement the work of established galleries by enabling talent to gain experience and skills. We work with galleries, but also seek new spaces where art becomes a part of everyday life and with the aim of involving audiences in an organic and personal way. ArtCan’s artist-centred ethos means that our model does not involve charging commissions on sales, to help artists focus on developing a sustainable practice.
