The York Astronomical Society was founded in 1972, around about the time that Apollo 16 went to the Moon. We were set up to demonstrate and teach astronomy and spaceflight to the people of York and the surrounding areas.Registered as a Charity in England and Wales.Registered Charity Number:1174488

Lunar Eclipse Night
Join the York Astronomical Society as the Lunar Eclipse rises.  This event (weather permitting ) being a lunar eclipse can result in the moon taking on a red hue, some call it a Blood moon, rather a dramatic description but none the less nice to see. Hear an illustrated talk on the Moon and Planets from an experienced astronomer. Observe the moon as it rises above the horizon, mid eclipse.  It may however be hard to spot, so there will be a prize for the first child to spot it.  Then take a look at Jupiter and Saturn through a selection of telescopes.  Later on Mars will rise.  Refreshments available.
All live observing is weather and atmospheric conditions dependent.  Talk will still take place.  Tickets are per person and under 2’s free.
