Join the Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland (ERCS) over lunch to find out more about the crime of ecocide - from the international campaign to how the law could change in Scotland. Why you should know about ecocideCriminalising mass destruction of nature has been gaining traction across the world. This crime is called ecocide.After 10 years of <a href="https://www.stopecocide.earth/" title="https://www.stopecocide.earth/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">international campaigning</a>, started by the late Scottish barrister Polly Higgins, the first step to create an ecocide law in Scotland has been now taken. In November 2023, Monica Lennon MSP opened <a href="https://www.ecocidelaw.scot/" title="https://www.ecocidelaw.scot/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">a public consultation on proposing the criminalisation of ecocide in Scots law</a>.This law could make it possible to punish the worst polluters.This info webinar will bring you up to speed with the latest developments in Scotland, and look into the possibilities and challenges ahead. Ecocide 101Joining ERCS will be Monica Lennon MSP and Anna Maddrick, Stop Ecocide International.Together we will talk you through:<ul><li>What is ecocide?</li><li>What is happening about making ecocide an international crime?</li><li>What is happening about criminalising ecocide in the European Union?</li><li>What could we do in Scotland?</li></ul>There will also be time for discussion and Q&amp;A. --------------- The event is free to attend and will be hosted on Zoom.Zoom details will be emailed to all attendees before the event.We want this event to be accessible to all.
