Machine Learning Adoption: Enhancing and Automating Decision Making

Machine Learning (ML) is transforming many industries while enabling new types of products and services nobody even dreamed of until recently. The global workforce cannot afford to stay behind the curve on this key technology, and there is a clear need of producing a much larger group of ML-literate professionals, such as managers, analysts, decision makers, developers, and subject matter experts. 
In this one-day event, Dr. José Antonio Ortega (Jao) and Dr. Merce Martin, CTO and VP of Applications respectively at BigML, will explore the state of the art in Machine Learning from both technology and business perspectives, with a special stress in its application to solving real-world problems in a variety of domains, including health care, finance, the legal sector, marketing or sales. To that end, they will showcase a series of actual use cases solved by real customers using ML platforms such as BigML’s.

Dr. Jose Antonio Ortega Ruiz (jao), Chief Technology Officer at BigML.

Jao is part of the founding team of BigML. Before he joined back in 2011, he was hacking for Oblong, previously he worked for Google, and previous to that, he worked on embedded software development for the scientific payload of LISA Pathfinder. He was a theoretical physicist in a previous life, and wrote a Ph. D. thesis on gravitational wave detectors. He also got a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Dr. Mercè Martín Prats, VP of Insights and Applications at BigML

Mercè Martín is working in BigML since 2013 as VP of Applications, develops and maintains Python bindings of BigML’s API and supports bindings for several other languages. She holds a PhD in theoretical Physics and a BS in Computer Science.                   
In the 90’s she participated in the development and design of the first European online Enciclopedia while working for a publishing company. There she also worked on search engines and NLP problems.
