Macramé Plant Hanger Workshop @ BA

A beginner-friendly macramé workshop to learn the basic macrame knots and create your own handmade piece to take home.

We’ll begin by creating a practice plant hanger, where you’ll learn and build confidence in the essential macramé knots. You’ll be guided step-by-step through both decorative and practical techniques, including the lark’s head knot, gathering knot, half square knot, and square knot.

Once you’ve had time to practise and feel comfortable, we’ll take a 15-minute break. During this time, you can enjoy refreshments from the Birnam Arts Café, take a peaceful stroll through the beautiful garden (once home to Beatrix Potter, creator of Peter Rabbit), or explore the free photo exhibition at the Birnam Arts Centre.

After the break, you’ll move on to creating your own customised plant hanger. You’ll have the freedom to choose your colours and incorporate your favourite knots to design a piece that reflects your personal style.

If you’d like to add more intricate details, you’re welcome to finish your piece at home—by this point, you’ll have all the skills and confidence needed to continue independently, whether you prefer a simple or more decorative design.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll enjoy a collaborative playlist, where everyone is invited to add their favourite songs—perfect for discovering new music. With a blend of chatting, music, and weaving, the session offers a calm, social, and almost meditative experience—ideal for unwinding.
