How we can make our world a better place? How can human and humanistic knowledge make a real difference? What hopes (and fears) can a humanities lead give us? These questions will serve as a starting point for an intense and engaging live conversation between five leading thinkers and doers. Central issues to be discussed include the environment, race, austerity, neuroscience and philosophy, and the digital.
• Gargi Bhattacharyya is Professor of Sociology at the University of East London • Gary Dirks is Director of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University • David Theo Goldberg, is a leading scholar on race, critical theory and the future of higher education from South Africa • Natalie Jeremijenko is a world-renowned artist, engineer and scholar and founder of the Environmental Health Clinic at New York University • Barry Smith heads the Institute of Philosophy, in the School of Advanced Study in University of London, and is the founder of the Centre for the Study of the Senses
