Overview

Let's Sew with Abakhan!

This is a fantastic project to brighten up the winter months and prepare for spring! A versatile jacket is always a great addition to your wardrobe, and it’s exciting to think about all the techniques you’ll learn along the way. Whether you're making a cosy fleece version for chilly mornings or a lighter wool version for the milder spring weather, there is so much potential in this project. When choosing fabric, you can also experiment with textures and colours to really personalise the jacket. A fleece would give it that cosy casual vibe, while ponte double knit can offer a structured but still comfortable look. Using a light weight wool might give you a more polished tailored finish, perfect for a slightly dressier feel.

The details like seam finishes can make all the difference in how professional the jacket looks. Using French seams or bias binding can add a beautiful clean finish inside and techniques like topstitching or using contrasting thread can create a polished high-end look. It’s all about those little touches that elevate the overall quality of your jacket.

Skill level : Basic sewing machine skills required

What to bring:

Tutor : Sheila Jones

I am passionate about sewing and crafting.

I have been involved with sewing and dressmaking for all of my working life and nothing gives me greater pleasure than passing on my knowledge to people who want to learn to sew. I enjoy sewing, dressmaking, all types of craft and especially machine embroidery.

I have been working at the abakhan store in Shrewsbury since it opened its doors in 2018.
