Evolving water systems: incorporating AI for definitions standardisation
Come to a 1.5 hour interactive workshop exploring the use of AI to capture and process UK and international water standards
The increasing use of AI and the convergence of information management is presenting a golden opportunity to standardise the language used to describe the evolving water systems at a country-scale. This will contribute to a better understanding of risks and resilience as well as creating commercial opportunities for UK plc.
In this focused workshop, convened by Dr Jessica Symons, Visioning Lab and co-hosted with Prof Liz Varga, UCL’s Infrastructure Systems Institute, Stream data taskforce and Future Water Association, we will define an approach to standardising UK water-related terms and lay out a roadmap for a government-backed standardisation initiative. We will also discuss strategic direction for next steps and funding applications such as the upcoming Water Breakthrough Challenge.
Activities will include the following:
- review existing water categorisation tools, glossaries, ontologies and other standardisation processes drawing insight from water taskforces and networks.
- map UK water stakeholders with capacity to implement standardisation (eg government bodies, standard organisations, major utilities, international bodies)
- consider how AI can support a UK water standardisation process- consider how to increase likelihood of standardisation adoption
- consider the commercial potential of a UK-owned water ontology standard developed through a shared approach
The discussion and relevant documents will be recorded, transcribed and processed through Visioning Lab's AI-enabled Ontology Maker tool for sharing with the water network and key decision makers.
Please come with relevant references to existing material and activities and the issues you should be addressed by work in this area.
The workshop will take place on Wed 10th September 12.30-2pm at UCL.
We are inviting key decision makers, information and technology specialists and influencers in the water industry. We are aiming for 20-30 people max.
To cover costs, we will need to charge a workshop fee of £75 (lunch included).
If you would like to attend, but cannot make that date, please let us know and we will arrange an additional workshop.
