We will share findings from the research, and recommendations for making change in the craft sector to support greater diversity in craft

<h3>Tuesday 29th June, 2pm-3.30pm</h3><p>You are invited to an event to mark the end of the first phase of the Craft Expertise project, an Arts and Humanities Research Council funded project by Birmingham City University and Crafts Council UK, which aims to support greater diversity in craft.</p><p>The first phase of the project began in March 2019, and has involved a series of research and public engagement activities which have aimed to raise awareness of inequalities in the contemporary UK craft economy.</p><p>The project has highlighted the various challenges faced by women of colour in the sector including racism and microaggressions in craft spaces, the challenges presented by social media, and issues with gaining recognition as expert makers. The work has informed Crafts Council’s approach to tackling racism and inequality in the craft sector.</p><h3>In this event we will share</h3><ul><li>Findings from the research</li><li>Recommendations for making change in the craft sector.</li></ul><p>These recommendations include actions for craft and creative organisations, local and national government and the creative education sector to make UK professional craft more welcoming and more inclusive for all.</p><p>We will also launch the second phase of the project which begins in July 2021, and which will build on the initial work of phase one and expand the research and knowledge exchange globally.</p><p>If you wish to attend please register and joining instructions will be sent to you nearer the time.</p><aside>Please note: This will be an online zoom meeting and we will provide automatic closed captioning.</aside>
