About this event

Ma*kin*g (Making kin)

Come join us at the Woolff Gallery for our first rendition of Making kin, an interdisciplinary reading group exploring the act of making with. The theme for our first session is death and decay, focussing on this aspect of more-than-human entanglements with reading, with talking, with making, and with our site - the soon to be knocked down Woolff Gallery at 89 Charlotte Street.

Expect chats, collages and food - - -

We have a few requests to make this workshop as engaging as possible. Once you sign up, please check out the readings we will share and have a think about the theme in any way you see fit. Secondly, please come to the session with any materials or images that you might feel inclined to respond to this with. We will provide materials, and we envisage the session orienting around simple methods like collage, but we would love for people to bring responses in the form of particular found images, objects, or materials that come to mind!

What are we trying to achieve with this group?

Through the Making kin reading group, we hope to practice and develop a pedagogy of making with. We are inspired by a desire to extend ourselves beyond our home practices, build community (with other people and other terrans), and engage with theoretical ideas and practical world-building through creative methods. Drawing on ideas of co-creation and futuring practices, we are building a community of academics, artists, and other practitioners who seek to create work with kinship and with other natures.

We have been experimenting with ways of working together, and at the moment are now looking to build this community! We have a short series of workshops planned (every 2-3 months), but would also love to continue to develop this along with the ideas of others.
