Making nerikomi vessels with foraged clay slip AFTERNOON CLASSES

Making nerikomi vessels with foraged clay slip AFTERNOON CLASSES

Overview

Over two weeks, we will process foraged clay into slip, use it to build nerikomi blocks and eventually create patterned slab built vessels!

Week 1 (Jan 10, 2.30pm-5pm) : We will learn to process foraged, local clay from it's raw, found state, into a usable slip. This dark liquid clay, alongside a white stoneware, will be used to crate a light and dark contrast in delicately patterned nerikomi blocks.

Week 2 (Jan 17, 2.30pm-5pm): We will use our nerikomi blocks from last week to create several sheets of clay, to create some simple slab built vessels. These vessels will have beautiful nerikomi patterns running through their walls, which we will have time to fettle back and clean.

I will glaze work seperately after the workshop with a honey coloured glaze made from local clay also, which will render them food safe :)

YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND BOTH SESSIONS. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE EVENT PAGE FOR THE LATE SESSION (There is an identical parallel workshop running from 11.30am-2pm).

Please note: If you would like to keep work there is a £10 additional fee per piece, which covers the (unrecycleable) material cost, the transportation of delicate works to my studio, glazing, the kiln firing cost, and the administrative work. Work is collectable from my studio from the week beginning Feb 16th 2026. I can only keep work for 3 months until it will be disposed of due to limited storage.
