An event creating space for freelance voices in cultural policy in Cornwall

A morning event all about the power of individuals and freelancers. Together we will explore how we can make positive changes to the creative and cultural sector, particularly focusing on how freelancers can be more included in policy making.AgendaWe will start with an introduction to the new <a href="https://associates.creativekernow.org.uk/" title="https://associates.creativekernow.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Creative Kernow Associates </a>pilot programme (launching in late September) and updates from <a href="https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/parks-leisure-and-culture/culture-and-creative-economy/about-our-culture-team/" title="https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/parks-leisure-and-culture/culture-and-creative-economy/about-our-culture-team/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cornwall Council’s culture team</a>. Creative Practitioner <a href="https://www.instagram.com/dickysouray/" title="https://www.instagram.com/dickysouray/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dicky Souray</a> will then share reflections and challenges from his own freelance journey to set the scene for the day, before we move on to smaller group sessions on:<ul><li>The future strategy for the performing arts sector in Cornwall with <a href="https://www.hallforcornwall.co.uk/about-us/our-team/helen-tiplady/" title="https://www.hallforcornwall.co.uk/about-us/our-team/helen-tiplady/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Helen Tiplady</a>, Deputy Creative Director, Hall for Cornwall &amp; <a href="https://scarylittlegirls.co.uk/mayven/meet-the-artists/rebecca-mordan/" title="https://scarylittlegirls.co.uk/mayven/meet-the-artists/rebecca-mordan/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rebecca Mordan</a>, Artistic Director, Scary Little Girls;</li><li>ReWilding Arts Leadership with artist and Clore fellow <a href="https://sovayberriman.co.uk/" title="https://sovayberriman.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sovay Berriman</a> - how can art bring change at governance, executive and policy-making levels;</li><li>The power of artist collectives and connectivity with <a href="https://www.lynnespeake.com/" title="https://www.lynnespeake.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lynne Speake</a>, artist and founder of Precious Collective.</li></ul>We will come back together for a discussion with all speakers and facilitators, chaired by Dicky Souray.LogisticsA light lunch will be provided from 1.15pm to carry on these conversations. A limited number of £75 honorariums are available for those who requires contribution for their time to attend, which will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.Who is this event for?This event is for freelancers working across the creative and cultural sector, as well as those representing creative and cultural organisations.AccessibilityAll rooms are wheelchair accessible.OrganisersThis event is organised by Creative Kernow Associates, a new membership programme for the creative and cultural sector in Cornwall, and is part of Cornwall Creates Forum. It is being held in partnership with Screen Cornwall, Creative Kernow, Hall for Cornwall and ASONE Perform, the consortium partners for Cornwall Council's Work Package 2 Creative Careers &amp; Talent Development, who have committed to bringing together a range of voices from across the sub-sectors of the creative industries in a biannual Cornwall Creates forum. Feedback from the event will go to Cornwall Council’s Culture Team as well as being used to inform ongoing funded work.
