Making the Most of Your Foreign Language Assistant

The Foreign Language Assistant training course will fully prepare all ‘first time’ FLAs for life in school.

Day One of the course will prepare FLAs for work in the English School System and will introduce some useful teaching strategies. Assistants will become more aware of their roles & responsibilities when working in schools. Vital paperwork will also be considered in order for the FLA to settle into their new role effectively.

Day Two of the course will involve micro-teaching activities, specialist coaching opportunities for all participating FLAs and an opportunity to reflect on the FLA’s role in supporting teaching & learning of Languages in school.

Aims and Content

By the end of the course, delegates will have:

  • a clear understanding of the administration involved when beginning their post;
  • explored the features of the English School System and be aware of a variety of school settings;
  • a clear idea of their roles & responsibilities;
  • experienced a range of teaching strategies for use in school.

Suitable for newly arrived Foreign Language Assistants or ones who have not previously received any training.
