Making your future brighter with languages

To mark the conclusion of the third and final phase of our Erasmus+ project with partners in Denmark and Norway, SCILT, Scotland&#x27;s National Centre for Languages, is hosting an event over two afternoons, aimed at young people and their parents and carers, to promote the relevance and value of languages and intercultural skills across a range of academic and professional fields.During the first session, aimed primarily at young people, attendees will hear from a panel of young Scots currently in their early careers. Each will share first-hand experiences of how the knowledge of another language has set them apart from colleagues in their field, and equipped them with valuable skills for their current roles. This session will take place during the school day. Teachers should register for the session on behalf of their class, and show the event on screen in class. This event would be particularly relevant to secondary learners from S2 upwards. The first session will take place on Wednesday 1 December, 13:30-15:00.In the second session, designed for parents, carers and teachers, there will be input by staff from SCILT and from professionals in other sectors, who will highlight the vital importance of languages and their associated skills to the workforce of the future. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to view the launch of a toolkit designed to help young people to identify courses and career pathways which will allow them to exploit knowledge of additional languages and other cultures. The second session will take place on Thursday 2 December, 16:00-17:30.Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to young Scots who use languages in their jobs, and to professionals with a knowledge of career pathways involving languages.Attendance at the event is free of charge and will be hosted on the MS Teams platform.Deadline to register by 5pm on Monday 29 November.<ul></ul>
