Overview
Picking the right EU jurisdiction now that Brexit has been unleashed is going to be crucial, not just for start-up managers but established managers in the UK who will need a “Plan B” to ensure continued use of passporting rights to distribute their funds to EU investors.
This is likely to prove beneficial for EU jurisdictions, including Malta, which continues to experience growth of its funds industry, not just on the fund licensing side but, increasingly, the number of AIFMs being set up on the island.
The GFM “Guide to Malta” breakfast event, to be hosted in May 2018, will showcase the jurisdiction over the course of three distinct panel sessions to give delegates a clear sense of what Malta can offer and why it should be regarded as a viable solution to EU fund structuring and distribution.
UK fund managers can’t afford to take a wrong turn as they make provisions to deal with Brexit. From a business continuity and growth perspective, knowing that they have an operational foothold in a stable EU jurisdiction cannot be underestimated.
To that end, the next six to 12 months will be an important period of discovery: what, for example, does Malta’s service provider network look like? What client service levels can UK managers expect? What AIFM solutions currently exist on the island? What does it offer from a fund structuring and distribution perspective? And, crucially, what are the expected costs of doing business for UK managers requiring a second jurisdiction?
These issues, among others, will be handled by a series of industry experts in order to help UK managers gain a clearer understanding of what Malta can offer in a post-Brexit environment.
Legal and fund structuring options: what are the different legal vehicles and fund products available to use in Malta – both regulated and non-regulated?
Operational considerations to running a Malta fund and/or AIFM: understanding the operational nuances from a service provider’s perspective, and the benefits of appointing a third party AIFM
Marketing & Distribution: how to best utilise Malta’s distribution network to promote Malta funds across the EU
The event will run from 8.30am to 12:30 on May 23rd, 2018 and will be hosted at the Reform Club, Pall Mall, London.
