The Software Sustainability Institute (www.software.ac.uk) is an EPSRC, AHRC, BBSRC, ESRC, NERC, MRC and STFC funded national facility that cultivates world-class research with software.We help people build better software, and we work with researchers, developers, funders and infrastructure providers to identify key issues and best practice in research software.

Research Software Camp: Next Steps in Coding

Our spring Research Software Camp: Next steps in coding will focus on improving computational and training skills and exploring existing resources out there. The Camp will be held from 16th to 27th May 2022.

This session is running as part of the Research Software Camp: Next Steps in Coding, organised by the Software Sustainability Institute. It will be delivered by Dr Sam Mangham, Senior Research Software Engineer at the University of Southampton. This two-hour session is for novice or intermediate-level developers of academic software who want to better manage its development and release. Developing academic software is a complex process. This workshop teaches the basics of managing project development and release, using the project management tools on the repository hosting site GitHub. The session covers:•	Managing and prioritising the development of your code, individually or as part of a collaboration•	Tracking bugs and communicating with users of your software•	Organising releases of your code, for ease of use and citation•	How to ensure your code is well-written and easy to maintainPrerequisites: Attendees should have a GitHub account and familiarity with Git (command-line or desktop clients are fine).The event will be delivered over Zoom - the link will be sent nearer the time of the event.
