This training is designed to support staff working in public-facing support roles who may be exposed to conflict or need to manage difficult or hostile behaviours with improved insight and safely.

This workshop offers knowledge and skills to recognise and understand patterns of behaviour associated with conflict and inappropriate hostility. It offers knowledge and skills to better-manage conflict, take control of difficult behaviours and improve assertiveness when and where required. The training will support staff to identify a range of dynamic / situational risk factors,

And will also teach staff to read body language to improve situational insights.

This is a friendly training course and is delivered by a psychology / psychiatry qualified facilitator. Free post-training support is available on an informal basis.

The following key areas will be addressed:

Understanding and recognising situations and scenarios that are common precipitants of conflict
The training will address the psychology of conflict and the common patterns of behaviour that staff can expect
The training will provide skills to better-manage difficult or hostile behaviours more effectively - to improve dignity, take control and reduce anxiety. It will coach staff with skills to defuse and control the outcome of difficult encounters. It will also offer skills to improve assertiveness
The training will address factors associated with personality disorder and forensic mental health to improve dynamic and pre-visit risk assessments
The training offers a detailed overview of body language and micro-gesture displays to improve dynamic risk assessments and maximise safe outcomes of conflict. There will be a key focus on multiple-person conflict and risk-factors associated with substance misuse

This is a one-day workshop and post-training support is available.
