Based on The Centre’s research on competitive trends and recognizing the challenge faced by businesses collecting and managing large amounts of data, the Centre is complementing its Understanding Data workshops by providing a new hands-on in-house confidential advisory support service with the objective of assisting organisations harness their information and use it to identify new opportunities. This leads to smarter business moves, more efficient operations, higher profits and happier customers. Based on research in the USA of 50 businesses, IIA Director of Research Tom Davenport found they got value in the following ways:

- Faster, better decision making. Make decisions based on what they’ve learned.
- New products and services. With the ability to gauge customer needs and satisfaction comes the power to give customers what they want, more companies were creating new products to meet customers’ needs
The growth of data – both structured and unstructured – will present challenges as well as opportunities for organisations over the next five years.
Data analytics is the process of examining the company’s data sets to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations, market trends, customer preferences and other useful business information. The analytical findings can lead to more effective marketing, new revenue opportunities, better customer service, improved operational efficiency, competitive advantages over rival organizations and other business benefits and will be key to keeping competitive.
