Mandatory Reporting is a key recommendations from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.


The Crime and Policing Bill was published in 2025 and included a key recommendations from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse – that of mandatory reporting. The proposal is that a new statutory duty is introduced for those carrying out key roles with children and young people in England to report sexual abuse when they are made aware of it. This will also include a new criminal offence of attempting to prevent someone reporting child sexual abuse. The duty will apply to anyone taking part in regulated activity with children in England, such as teachers, social workers, healthcare professionals; and those working in voluntary roles with children.
