About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Paid venue parking

Inspired by Akila Richard’s ‘Ritual for a Mango’ poetry pamphlet launched in 2024 you are in for a treat. Be immersed into the requiem and rapture in what it means to be human and therefore feel and fill us with a grander collective vision.

Award winning poet Akila’s lyricism is accompanied by Cuban, Afro Latin singer, songwriter and poet Adriana Lord, British-Congolese singer and multi-instrumentalist Liz Ikamba and cellist and performing artist Simone Seales.

Mango Ritual is a live performance of spoken word and music that features a short film for the central poem, choreographed and danced by Munya Muchati alongside Akila’s spoken word and the musician’s recorded music.

*Content warning: In some of the poetry, there are mentions of refugee experience, war and conflict.

Look out for the launch of the Mango Ritual Soundscape in October 2025.
