If you're already competent and confident then you are more than welcome to join us.

This is the second part of our map reading and navigation series, following on from the theory-based online lesson. Now it’s time to take that knowledge into the real world.

Join us for a practical, hands-on day navigating the stunning Dartmoor terrain. This is your chance to put everything you’ve learned into action—with expert guidance and support throughout.

Led by Casey – an ex Commando and qualified Mountain Leader – you’ll benefit from years of elite-level experience. Casey’s calm, clear instruction will help you develop real confidence as you build your navigation skills in a safe, encouraging environment.

What you’ll gain:

  • A solid understanding of direction, distance, duration, and detail on the ground
  • Practical map and compass skills to use in any environment
  • Coaching in safe and confident route planning
  • The ability to lead friends and family on your own adventures
  • Personalised guidance to help you overcome any uncertainties

Whether you’re a beginner or brushing up on existing skills, this session is all about building confidence through experience.

You’ve done the theory—now it’s time to take the lead.

Organized by

At Bottom Up Outdoors, we don’t just take you into the hills — we take you into the wild with purpose. Led by Commando and certified Mountain Leader, Casey, our events are designed to build real outdoor confidence, self-reliance, and a deep respect for the raw beauty of the UK’s most stunning landscapes.

Map Reading & Navigation

Ditch the tech and rediscover the power of your own senses. Our hands-on navigation sessions teach you how to read the land, understand contours, use a compass, and make confident decisions off the beaten track. No more guessing where you are — you’ll know.

Guided Hiking Adventures

From rolling moors to rugged ridgelines, our guided hikes take you through the best of the British outdoors. Whether you’re after a day of challenge or steady exploration, you’ll walk away stronger, more focused, and reconnected to nature.

Remote Outdoor Walking

Get away from the crowds and into the wild. These journeys are for those who want to step into the silence and space of remote country — where your mind clears, your senses sharpen, and the only sound is the crunch of boots on earth.

Wild Camping Experiences

This is where it gets real. Learn how to set up shelter, cook in the wild, stay warm, dry, and safe — and wake up where few others ever do. Wild camping with Bottom Up Outdoors isn’t just a night under the stars — it’s a full reset for the soul.

Survive & Thrive Outdoors

Every event is built with one mission: to give you everything you need to not just survive, but thrive in the outdoors. With Casey’s military background and mountain expertise, you’ll gain practical skills, mental toughness, and the kind of confidence that carries into every part of life.
