MAPATHON- Liverpool

A small group have teamed up with Liverpool Friends of MSF to organise the very first Mapathon in Liverpool

This two hour mapathon hosted by Liverpool Friends of MSF will bring together individuals interested in helping humanitarian groups by working as a team to map out vulnerable places with important geographical information (GIS). This work will contribute to the work of OpenStreetMap, MSF, the British Red Cross, the American Red Cross so that international and local NGOS can use the maps and data to better respond to crises affecting these areas now and in the future.

Who can take part?
Everyone! You don’t need any experience of mapping to get involved, just your LAPTOP and the internet (Wi-fi is available). A MOUSE is also helpful.
How can you take part?
You can contribute to missing maps by tracing satellite imagery into openstreetmaps via the website missingmaps.org, whenever and as much as you like (it really is that easy!).
You could also attend the very first mapathon, taking place in Liverpool on the 3rd of May!
What is a mapathon?
The aim of a mapathon is to network volunteers, and provide support and basic training in order contribute to missingmaps in volume as a team, and to create a pool of trained volunteer mappers to utilise if a disaster strikes.
