Mapping Devon VCSE sector: perspectives on intelligence gathered so far

ESSENCE of Exeter is an active peer-support network for social enterprises and co-operatives, and those who approach their business with a social and/or environmental mindset. This includes social enterprise support organisations or partners that want to promote social and/or environmental aims.Our primary aim is to develop members' businesses and the sector across the Exeter region.ESSENCE Connects, Supports and Represents the sector by providing the following for its members:* signposting to business support and networking events* creating opportunities to share best practice and learn from each other* promoting member businesses and supporting their marketing activity* helping to find partners and collaborators for projects and bids* building awareness of the social sector in the region* promoting the interests of our members with local authorities* supporting each other in generating more sales, revenue and incomeIt is our vision to have a flourishing social enterprise sector in the Exeter area, in which the general public and local businesses have more awareness & knowledge about local social enterprise and buy more products & services from local social enterprisesWe are a membership organisation and are open to applications from individuals and businesses based in Exeter and the surrounding area. Please check your inbox of the email address you have registered with.The Devon charity, voluntary community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector consists of more than 6,000 organisations, has an annual turnover of over £2bn, and together engages on a paid and voluntary basis over 40,000 people in service delivery, with a majority of these services working to develop individual, family and / or community wellbeing.ESSENCE has been working with the Devon County Council hosted Devon Recovery Group on the development of this intelligence and opportunity of greater community engagement in recovery delivery.We are inviting stakeholders and actors within the Devon (including Plymouth &amp; Torbay) VCSE sector to join us on Wednesday 8th Sept for a 90-minute session, in which we will explore the use of data intelligence on charity, voluntary community and social enterprise sector organisations and activities being developed and the potential this creates to improve community engagement and access to lived experience, to guide co-design / co-development of recovery plans and delivery of better societal solutions across the county.By participating in this workshop you will:* Learn about the research undertaken so far, mapping the huge potential of the Devon VCSE sector, being able to use it to your advantage in the work you do;* Be invited to discuss the actual use of this data going forward as well as becoming co-owner and user of the ongoing development and application;* Meet new allies in bringing the desired change addressing the huge social, environmental and economic needs in our region;This work is part of a Task &amp; Finish subgroup of the Devon Recovery Coordination Group (December 2020 – November 2021) and supported with funding from Devon Public Health. The group is undertaking a range of tasks, including – enhancing / developing cross sector VCSE and statutory strategic plans, Devon wellbeing development needs and VCSE capacity and capability mapping, gathering and sharing intelligence and improving communications and understanding. A number of Devon &amp; Exeter infrastructure organisations belong to the group, giving us a wide reach into Devon communities and a footprint across the whole of Devon.
