Mapping the Peats

Three Rivers is a free-floating social arts agency. We work with local partners to support creative practices, which recognise, resource and respond to people, place, land and community, in the London Borough of Bexley.Three Rivers is funded by Arts Council England, through a programme called Creative Places and People, which focuses on parts of the country where involvement in arts and culture is significantly below the national average.

Beneath the pavement, the marshes is a two-year action-research programme delving into the cultural, ecological and political dynamics of Crossness and Erith Marshes.

<h3>Join RE-PEAT for a walkshop exploring the varied ways we can value peatlands collectively and individually, through a series of drawing &amp; playful creative activities responding to Erith Marshes. </h3> What do we value and why? Why do we value some elements in our environments more than others? Which biases play a role in human and non-human interactions?  Peatlands have been chronically undervalued for centuries, often perceived as empty, unoccupied spaces waiting to be exploited.  In this walkshop, we will be exploring the marshes and thinking about how land use represents the perceived value of a space, and how we ourselves choose to value these fascinating ecosystems. <h4>About RE-PEAT</h4><a href="https://www.re-peat.earth/" title="https://www.re-peat.earth/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">RE-PEAT</a> is a youth-led collective changing hearts and minds for and through peatlands. Over the past four years we have been seeding creative experiences, producing resources and connecting young people’s stories with decision-makers across Europe. Because we believe that without this deeper imaginative work, high-level policies and non-governmental interventions for peatland restoration and protection will neither be effective, nor fair, nor truly healing. <h4>Important Details</h4><ul><li>This event is FREE and open to everyone. However, participants under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.</li><li>Spaces are limited, so booking is essential.</li><li>Entrance: on Norman Road. Additional information about the meeting point will be sent the day before the event.</li><li>Note: Onsite parking is available. Please consider arriving on foot, by bike, or using public transport.</li><li>Nearest Station: Abbey Wood</li><li>Nearest Bus Stop: Picardy Manorway Eastern Way. Buses: 401 - 601.</li></ul> <h4>Accessibility Notice</h4><ul><li>The workshop is not fully accessible for individuals with limited mobility.</li><li>The terrain is mostly flat but includes some stony areas, small inclines, and uneven grasslands.</li><li>The site is outdoors with limited shelter and can become muddy after rain. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Bringing water is also recommended.</li></ul>
