MARKETING FOR CREATIVES 

Colonnade House is the home of local art in Worthing, showcasing work by painters, printmakers, sculptors and photographers.On the ground floor there are two gallery spaces, and on the upper three floors are ten studios available to rent to people working in the creative industries. Colonnade House also hosts networking events, talks and workshops for local creatives to connect, share skills and be inspired.

Join us at Colonnade House - Creative Hub for an evening about marketing for artists, makers, small publishers and creatives in general. Marketing tools are available to all of us but the best way to navigate them, how much time we should invest in marketing and what type of marketing approach will be most effective can be very confusing. That is why we have invited three fantastic creatives to speak from very different angles on how they market their business and what they have discovered so far.

helloDODO are Jam and Ali, husband and wife and playful printmakers from sunny Worthing. With a mutual love of fun and bold graphic design, they create bright (and often silly) artwork to brighten up any home and to make people smile! They are inspired by lots of things but their favourites are bright colours, bold shapes, funny puns, lovely animals and seaside living." Who also happen to be masterful users of online marketing tools such as Instagram and this what they will be focusing on during their marketing talk. Learn what it takes to engage and grow your following creatively on Instagram.

Ruth Mulvie is an artist (painter) mum and teacher. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art. Following art school Ruth worked in the Commercial Gallery world and then when on to direct a Gallery in London, where she took part in several London art Fairs. Since returning to working as working as an artist Ruth has exhibited at The Other Art Fair and arranged several self-organised pop up exhibitions. In this brief talk Ruth talks about some of the key parts of planning and preparing for a fine art exhibition including pricing, social media and handling sales at the event and planning a timeline in the run up to an exhibition.

Frances Wetherilt is publisher and editor of Here & Now magazine, an editorial-based mass-market local community magazine that helps residents and visitors to find out what is going on in and around Worthing. Frances will discuss print medias perspective on how to market creatively, the rise of the magazine and what she thinks creatives can do to help themselves market through print more effectively.
