Author, screenwriter, and long-standing Library member Daisy Goodwin returns to The Reading Room for the second instalment of The London Library Masterclass.

Following on from our last session, ‘How to Get Published’, this Masterclass will focus on script and screenwriting, covering everything from writing and adaptation to production. Daisy will be joined by a panel of guest speakers comprising Literary Manager Liam Francis Quigley and Screenwriter Max Gill who, through lively discussion and audience Q&A, will divulge their top tips and invaluable industry knowledge to reveal not only how to write a script, but how to sell one.

Daisy Goodwin is a writer, journalist and BAFTA-winning TV producer. After ten years at the BBC making arts documentaries, she left to join the independent sector and created a number of programmes including Grand Designs and The Nation’s Favourite Poems. In 2005, she started Silver River productions, which she sold to Sony in 2012. Alongside her TV work, Daisy has written a memoir, Silver River and two novels My Last Duchess and The Fortune Hunter, which were both New York Times bestsellers. In 2014, Daisy was commissioned to write her first screenplay, Victoria, an 8-part series for ITV.

Liam Francis Quigley, born in Scotland began his career in the WME mailroom, before joining 42 as assistant to company CEO, Josh Varney, and was soon promoted to Manager. He spent years signing and developing clients in London before moving to the US to help build the company’s LA office. Liam represents some of the industry's most exciting, diverse, next generation of writers and filmmakers across Film and Television and has a reputation for sourcing and supporting talent at very nascent stages on both sides of the Atlantic.

Max Gill is a screenwriter whose career began in theatre, starting on the fringe before working as assistant to Sir Kenneth Branagh across stage and feature film projects. His first play was published by Oberon books and nominated for Best Off-West End Production. He has directed internationally and in the West End. He has extensive experience as a Story Executive and Story Producer across various screen projects in the UK. His work for screen includes writing for show-runners including Alex Garland, Mindy Kaling and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. He is currently shooting a series for Amazon he wrote and created, and has several other series in development with major studios in UK and USA and is writing a feature for Film 4.

N.B. Doors will open at 6.30 pm and a glass of wine (or non-alcoholic alternative) will be available upon arrival. The Masterclass will take place from 7-8 pm.
