Practical workshop on designing and building with hemp/lime, including spray and cast application for retrofit insulation.

The Inspire Centre 

Suitable for: Architects, surveyors, housing managers, retrofit professionals, contractors and plasterers.Practical workshop covering the particular properties of hempcrete and best practice for it&#x27;s applicaiton. The workshop will demonstrate both spraying and casting hemp lime, applied to a real building in Chorlton, Manchester. It will be led by hemp building experts Prof. Tom Woolley (architect) and Graham Durrant (specialist hemp builder). Both have been working with hemp and lime for many years. The workshops will be used to launch new local authority building control certification for hempcrete and also a new book on insulation materials published by the Institute of Civil Engineers.Hemp and lime (or hempcrete) offers one of the best solutions to insulating buildings. As interest has grown in meeting nearly zero carbon standards and reducing heating bills, many people have recognised the need to also use healthy and breathable materials. Hemp lime can be used in both new construction and to retrofit existing buildings. Hemp lime can be applied to old walls both internally and externally and can make a dramatic difference to thermal performance. It also allows old walls to breathe and humidity levels can be reduced. Hemp lime is made from natural materials that are environmentally beneficial and makes it possible to avoid the use of plastic and toxic petrochemical materials. Prof. Tom Woolley - a green building pioneer who has taught sustainable building practices at Universities across the UK and developed the graduate training programme at the Centre for Alternative Technology. He has authored many influential books including &#x27;The Green Building Handbook&#x27;, &#x27;<a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Natural-Building-Guide-Materials-Techniques/dp/1861268416" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Natural Building: A Guide to Materials and Techniques</a>&#x27; and &#x27;<a href="https://www.brebookshop.com/details.jsp?id=321427" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hemp and Lime Construction</a>&#x27;.Graham Durrant, has over a decade of experience in hemp/lime construction, operating his own business <a href="http://hemplimespray.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hemp Lime Spray Ltd</a> as well as providing technical know-how and help for people interested in hempcrete from all over the world.
