Event description
This in-person course is for anyone seeking to develop an advanced understanding about the art and science of communicating data visually.

About this event

Who is this training for?

This training is relevant to anyone who has a role or interest in improving the creativity and impact of their visual communications. This popular classroom course will challenge, enlighten, equip, and inspire you. It will transform your capabilities to fully embrace this complex, multidisciplinary subject, enhancing your competence and confidence.

Returning to the classroom and Covid-19

This course will be delivered in-person at the central London location of etc venues Marble Arch. The return to delivering face-to-face courses in a classroom environment is an exciting prospect, as it is the most effective environment for teaching this subject. However, it also needs to be handled with reasonable caution in light of Covid-19. There is a balance to preserving the practicalities of delivering an optimum training experience with the need to ensure the comfort of those attending.

The training room, which has the capacity to hold up to 24 people, will instead be limited to a maximum of 12 attendees for this course. Each attendee will have their own double-desk space. Though some course activities will be possible to undertake in pairs or groups, this will not be forced on anyone who prefers to participate individually and doing so will not undermine the value you gain from the course.

Attendees will not be asked to prove their vaccine status, but everyone will be asked to take a lateral flow test in the 24 hours before the course commences. Short-notice cancellations and/or booking amendments will be accepted without challenge (see below). The choice of wearing a mask during the course will be left to the individual judgment of attendees.

All measures outlined will be reviewed in the run up to the event in February, depending on the status of the pandemic and also in accordance with the venue's policies. If any reasonable changes are necessary to be introduced, these will be immediately communicated with all attendees.

Agenda

The sessions will commence at 9:30am and finish around 5pm on both days, with arrival open from 9am onwards. There will be breaks during the morning and afternoon sessions, and a lunch break of 1 hour. For more information about this course, including details about the specific training topics via an indicative agenda, download the course brochure.  Also, visit the visualisingdata.com training page where you will also be able to learn more details about Andy Kirk's training course, including a selection of testimonials from previous attendees.

Laptops

Delegates are requested to bring a wireless-enabled laptop to use as a workspace for the session. The event is not technical in nature but this will give you convenient access to the materials and exercise files referred to during the day. You will only require access to Excel, a pdf reader (eg. Adobe Reader) and a modern browser and across the day you should expect to need around 3 hours of charge. Convenient power strip access will be provided for charging devices.

Refreshments

Unlimited hot drinks and water will be available throughout the sessions. Lunch is NOT provided, but the chosen venue is located with convenient access to plenty of nearby food and cafe facilities. This will also help encourage everyone to get some fresh air and have a proper break from the session.

Payment

Payment can be made online with a range of credit card types using the built in Eventbrite processing system. Click on 'Register' and follow the instructions to complete the delegate registration and payment details.

You can also make a registration offline via an invoice process for electronic transfer or cheque payment. If you/your organisation prefer this method please just email andy@visualisingdata.com to reserve your place and progress your registration.

VAT

An additional 20% VAT charge is made for UK and EU delegates. Delegates from the rest of the world are exempt from these charges. If you believe your organisation is exempt from VAT charges please email andy@visualisingdata.com to explain your situation and to make arrangements for this exemption to be reflected in the registration costs.

Cancellation policy

In light of the uncertainties created by the pandemic, and the way this may undermine confidence people have towards booking to attend in-person events like this, full refunds (less the non-refundable Eventbrite processing fee at ~5%) are offered for any delegate cancellations right up to the day before the course.

If any circumstances emerge that prevent attendance, you may also transfer your registration to another delegate. You may also choose to switch your registration to attend an alternative course in the future - they usually take place every couple of months. Please email andy@visualisingdata.com if this situation arises.

In the rare event that this training course has to be cancelled due to any unforeseen circumstances you will be offered a choice of a full refund OR the opportunity to attend an alternative training course in the future. Refunds will be limited to registration costs: Visualising Data Ltd is not liable for any other costs incurred.
