Mastering Screen Essentials with Clare Davidson and Will Freeman offers 5 in-depth days exploring different aspects of acting for the screen, which can be taken away with you if requested.There will be continuous playback opportunities with discussion and analysis of shots filmed. Small sections of text will be used throughout the week as well as there being exciting opportunities to improvise.An overview of the course:THE CLOSE UPWhen the lens is tight in your face your performance must adapt as time appears to slow down. Through exercises to relax your facial muscles, you will learn how to let subtle expressions substitute for energetic muscular reactions to the emotion of a scene.ANGERThrough exercises to help you control and release your breathing you will learn how to let rage build and be stifled. How to explode or hide fury, and not to hurt your throat. You will leave with valuable skills in quickly accessing and reaching heights of intense emotion.SILENCEBy gradually removing dialogue from a scene we will create an environment where your silence will do the talking. You will learn how to reveal complex emotions without words, so that as you listen to your scene partner you can draw the camera to you and be the loudest person in the room.THE EXTREME WIDEWhen the camera can't see your eyes and the microphone can't hear your voice, how can you tell us how you feel? Through first exploring releasing physical exercises, we will then use extreme-wide shots where your legs, arms and posture have to carry the scene.INTIMACYFilm is an intimate medium. Through understanding the power of subtext, substitutions, triggers, your 5 senses and a carefully crafted back story, you will learn how quickly you can access emotional depth in a scene without feeling at the mercy of intimate text.
