A public conversation and launch event of the Material Store : Spare Thoughts event series with RESOLVE Collective and special guests.

The 'Material Store', is a radical reimagination of the infrastructures that distribute resources to populations, a people-centred approach to the creative reuse of industry-specific waste, with the aim of facilitating design education, alongside locally driven action and creative networks. From now until November, we will collect materials from creative institutions to redistribute to local communities, creatives and members of the public to freely take away.This public conversation is the launch event of the Material Store : Spare Thoughts event series. These will be joyous convenings, with practitioners sharing practical notes on their methods to local audiences. We want to centre the necessity of peer-to-peer skill-sharing in conversation with aligned organisations and practitioners. This is to articulate not only the importance of building with circularity, but to imagine ways in which reuse and repair can destabilise existing power relations in our societies.We understand the ‘Material Store’ as a place-based infrastructure for local material distribution and circular economy upskilling towards creative access. It positions a people-centred approach to the creative reuse of industry-specific waste and facilitates design education and locally driven action. The speakers we have invited to lead this conversation all practice and research this methodology and embrace opportunities to sharpen and share these skills and tools.The speakers are:Seetal Solanki (Material Ma-tt-er)George Kafka + Rebecca Gremmo (Design Museum)Tay Aziz (We Can Make)George Massoud (Material Cultures)These events are free and RESOLVE warmly welcome all to join and actively participate in these engaging and essential conversations.
